Dear Isle Of Wight ADHD Services

Hello,

It’s been a while since I last posted here.

The past year and a bit has been full of happiness, pain, heartbreak, and a whole mix of other things my brain can’t even line up properly right now (thanks, ADHD). I’m sat here at 7:57pm typing this because, honestly, I’m tired of not being heard.

To give a quick snapshot of my mental health journey: I’ve lived with severe anxiety, depression, agoraphobia (not leaving the house for nearly three years), and most recently, ADHD.

I was diagnosed with combined ADHD in January 2024 after being on the waiting list for just under two years. Medication wasn’t offered until around five months later due to a “backlog in the system” and a complete lack of communication between services. During that time, I was dealing with other health issues (mainly hormonal problems and a severe iron deficiency) so after discussing it with my GP, we decided it wasn’t the right time for me to start ADHD medication.

In 2025, once I’d recovered, I made the decision that I did want to try medication. However, when I went to take it, I realised the seal inside the box had already been opened. Whether that was something I’d done myself out of curiosity (my memory is honestly shocking), or something else, it meant the medication wasn’t safe to use.

That same year, I lost my mum. In the middle of grief and constant survival mode, chasing the ADHD team was the last thing on my mind.

Fast forward to today: 23rd January 2026.

Over the past few days, I’ve been speaking to multiple people trying to get medication sorted or at least get the ball rolling. Losing my mum has affected me in ways I didn’t expect, and my ability to focus day to day has taken a serious hit.

You’d think the first place that could help would be the Isle of Wight ADHD clinic. Unfortunately, they’re still in the middle of transferring everyone’s records to a mainland company called the PHL Group. Because of this, there are no appointments available and no medication reviews happening.

“Ok,” I thought, “let’s try contacting my GP.” That was a dead end too. No shared care agreement had been set up, so my GP wasn’t able to authorise any medication. If you suffer from ADHD or know someone who does, you’ll understand how much this drains your motivation oh so very quickly.

I had one last point of contact: the company that was supposed to take over our records which was PHL group. “It was meant to be completed by April 2025, but that’s been postponed, and we don’t know when it will happen,” I was told. Another big hit to my energy, so I called the Isle Of Wight clinic again and asked about getting a referral to somewhere else. They agreed in principle, but couldn’t process it themselves. I was told that once I gave permission for my record to be transferred, it would be accepted. “Finally, I’m getting somewhere,” I thought.

I Googled and found only one provider covering all of Hampshire, the PHL Group again. I called again, this time choosing the Southampton option. If I had to get a boat to get treatment, then so be it. You can probably guess what happened next: another no. They aren’t able to take referrals directly; it has to come through the migration system on the Isle of Wight.

At that point, I was defeated. Work (thankfully from home) was becoming harder and harder to focus on. In one last attempt, I did an e-consult and asked my GP to refer me to an ADHD clinic in Southampton. If someone like me is struggling to get medication, what is happening to those already on it without shared care? ADHD medication isn’t something you can just stop safely.

And now, here I am. It’s 8:19pm, and this is my final attempt to raise awareness. If anyone has tips on where to move forward, please let me know. I’m not blaming the Isle of Wight clinic, they’re clearly stretched to the max, but where is the backup plan? Where is the support for those still awaiting diagnosis or treatment?

Please share if you've been affected by this and I'm hoping this post will bring attention for all of these issues to be addressed.

Living With Anxiety & Being A Blogger

Anxiety is an mental illness that is always overlooked.I personally feel that its not talked about enough, and that it should be taught in schools to prepare people that are either suffering from it already or being ready for the future.I was diagnosed with anxiety disorder 4years ago, after struggling through my teens with exhausting panic attacks. This could of been prevented, if I was diagnosed earlier on and that I was able to confront the panic attacks, but instead I was told this was normal and that I should just get on with it.At the time, I did somehow deal with it, despite having the worry of "what happens when I have that horrible feeling again?" because back then I had no idea what it was and I thought I was going crazy.I was studying computing at the time and the coursework would get stressful, but it was part of my routine to wake up every morning to go to college that kept my mind distracted from the dreaded "panic feeling".During that time, I started up my own blog because I wanted to help other people find products for there natural hair, because back then we only had access to U.S brands via Amazon or the hair shop. This stopped after around 8months, because I was in a controlling relationship at the time and my partner wasn't liking the attention that I was getting, so I stopped it to make them happy.

How I started up blogging again and why:
I didn't realise it back then, but blogging was also my way of coping with things and making others happy.Sounds really clique I know, but I love being able to help other people in any way that I can and just talking about hair products at the time seemed to be helping lots of people.I knew that I needed to get rid of the default template of my blog, so I purchased one off Etsy, which kicked off my blog straight away.I then changed it again in 2016, to something that was more personal to me style wise and what I'm all about. My anxiety between 2013 to early 2015 was up and down, because I had been pushed around quite a bit, and I always had my blog to come back to to keep me focused.
If you look at my blog or my instagram posts, you will see a few differences between myself and other bloggers when it comes to taking pictures. One of the biggest, is that I hardly go to any events, especially if it involves a lot of travelling. This isn't because I'm not interested, because believe me I really want to be there, but its that horrible feeling of "what IF this happens?"It may sound dramatic, but for anxiety sufferers its a thing we can't just "turn off".The second is that I don't go and do a lot of location posts, but this was mainly around mid 2016.I have a really good reason for this one though which wasn't just down to anxiety, and was in fact due to an accident that happened to a family member which caused a lot of stress and worry for everyone.I found it extremely difficult to focus on my blogging and I needed time away from it to care for that person.

I wanted to use the picture of me and my kitten to show exactly how anxiety could affect me physically too. This photo was taken in 2014, and this is probably the skinniest that I've been.I had very little energy too, so when it came to taking photo's back then, I would set my camera on video and screenshot my pictures in my room.On this occasion my kitten wanted attention, but you can see how skinny I am in this photo.Back then I didn't realise this and looking at myself in that photo churns my stomach a little.I never saw myself as "too skinny" and actually thought I was fat, so seeing this picture is a real eye opener.

The constant blogging thoughts influenced by anxiety:
Blogging for some people is seen as a job or just a hobby. For me at the moment, its a hobby, because I enjoy sitting here writing up blog posts like this one and not wanting any money for it.I've only ever charged for work when a brand has approached me asking for a sponsored post or payment comes within the contract that we've agreed on.2016 was a really good year for me blogging wise, but my anxiety still got in the way for many reasons. One of the reasons which impacted me a lot, was being let down by the NHS, who kept pushing me about and not offering me the treatment that I needed. This is also linked to what I said earlier about a family member being in an accident, but my brain pretty much switched to "auto pilot" mode to cope with the situation.
Its actually not surprising on how many bloggers or influencers that suffer from anxiety or any other mental health problem. The few that I know which I'm not going to mention to respect them, aren't very open to it with there followers because they're scared of the backlash and not getting any work.I was exactly the same, being worried that no one would want to work with me and to be honest, I still get that doubt everyday.

"Why would a brand want to work with me when I can't go to there events?"
"I feel like I'm taking up someone else's collaboration opportunity because I'm not there in person"
"Why pick me when theres thousands of better bloggers out there?"

Those are a few questions that I do ask myself, because the anxiety restricts me from the potential that I can achieve.I've always been open on my social media about my anxiety and with brands via phone/email, because I want them to fully know who I am and what kind of blogger that I am too.I tend to contradict myself along with the thoughts I've had above as well, because 99% of the time of when brands contact me, they know about my anxiety struggles and they still want to work with me.Its not just about me giving them publicity and promoting them on my social media, but its knowing that I'm always 100% honest with what I talk about and I enjoy engaging with my audience/readers/followers.I don't blog for views or to get popular, because thats not how I work, its about making a change in society to make men and women feel comfortable with themselves, whether thats talking about natural hair, accepting your body (yeeep including those belly rolls), mental health or even your culture, you shouldn't be made to feel that you're not good enough.I'm not the best when it comes to writing content when I look at other bloggers, but as long as I'm making a change, whether it be big or small to make that persons day, then I feel like I've accomplished something really good.On that note, I hope this post has given some insight on who I am when it comes to my blog work and doing it alongside with anxiety and also to the many other bloggers/influencers out there that may suffer in silence. You are NOT alone

Time isn't always on our side: Little update on my life & my health

Its been a while since I've sat down to blog and I do pretty much owe you all an explanation to why I've been away.I'm unable to go into full extent of everything yet, because its still affecting me mentally and emotionally, but you all know that I'm always 100% honest with you when something is going on in my life.As some of you already know, I've been on the pill since my early teens to focus on my hormones and my time of the month.Back in June I was watching a GP documentary with my mum, that had a young lady that was taking the same pill as me (Micronor) and she was immediately advised to stop taking it because she suffered from migraines.Being someone that was told to switch to this pill from another because of my migraines got me extremely worried, so I ended up contacting my nurse to discuss this. She was disgusted how no one picked up on this for the past 11years of me taking it, despite me even mentioning it as it was noted on my file.Because of this, they switched me to the Desogestrel (also known as the mini pill and Progestogen only) pill, as these are more safe for those that suffer from migraines.
I done so much research and spoke to the nurse about this as of course I felt let down by the NHS.The only warning I was given was there could be a little bit of depression, but it wouldn't be long lasting at all.Within the first couple of days, the random cramps stopped, however after a week things dramatically changed. My anxiety increased out of nowhere and I was feeling incredibly low, and I couldn't work out what it was at all.It got to the point where I felt so depressed, I would stay in my room and not engage with anyone, not even by text.It then clicked at the possibility that it could be the pill, so I decided to stop taking it to see if anything changed.Within 48hours of me not taking it, everything improved immediately and I felt like me again.Of course this came with the negatives like stomach cramps, nausea, reduced hormones etc.I wanted to try again to see how I got along with this pill, and despite getting the same effects before after a week, I kept pushing hoping it would stop, but by the second week I couldn't take it anymore. This is one of the reasons why I vanished off social media for a while, because the depression caused by this pill was unreal, and after a lot of consideration, I've decided to stop taking it entirely.I really hope this helps someone that either is taking micronor that suffers with migraines to stop taking them and the side effects of this pill as well.

After that incident, things started to improve and I was back being to my old normal self, until last week. This is the subject of course I don't want to go into too much detail about like I mentioned at the beginning, because its still hurting me quite bad and of course I'm not going to go into too much detail to protect there privacy also.It was mainly a realisation that life is too short, because I nearly lost someone that not only do I love dearly, but they're pretty much my world and having that hitting me just out of blue, has changed the way that I view life. With everything that was going on, blogging or going on my social media wasn't even on my to do list, everything was about them.Of course everything has improved now as I'm back blogging again and I'm going at my own pace until I get back into my routine. If you've been on my blog before, you would of realised I've changed my whole blog template too, to make it more user friendly for you.Let me know what you think of it and I also want to thank you too for your patience as well.I have a lot of posts planned and I'm looking forward to me sharing them with you all xx
